Garden of Verses

Live Project for a client - 2024 School's Poetry Competition - Canterbury Festival
Project Overview
For the 2024 Schools’ Poetry Competition, organised by Canterbury Festival, I collaborated with fellow students at Canterbury Christ Church University to develop a suite of promotional materials. The project encompassed creating a versatile logo, an A5 poetry anthology booklet, a promotional A4 poster, and a 10-second Instagram video.
My Contributions
In response to the Canterbury Festival's brief for the 2024 Schools’ Poetry Competition, I created the "Garden of Verses" theme. Drawing inspiration from the whimsical world of "Alice in Wonderland," my design incorporated vibrant imagery of flowers, gardens, and bugs to captivate the young poets and their families. The colorful and imaginative elements were crafted to appeal to the target audience of children aged 5-18, as well as their parents and educators. This theme not only provided a visually engaging and enchanting backdrop for the competition but also encouraged creativity and exploration, aligning perfectly with the spirit of poetry and the festival's cultural celebration.

Project Presentation
This presentation showcases the journey from my initial ideas to the final concept. It includes detailed mind maps that illustrate the evolution of my thought processes and how various elements interconnected. By examining these visual aids, you will see the inspirations that significantly influenced my creative direction. These inspirations are a blend of personal interests, academic research, and professional examples that guided me through refining and developing my final idea. This presentation not only highlights the creative path I took but also provides insight into the rationale behind my design choices and strategic decisions.
Anthology
To accommodate the client's budget constraints, which required in-house printing, I designed a simplified anthology for the "Garden of Verses" competition. This version featured significantly more white space and a cleaner layout, ensuring it remained visually appealing while being cost-effective to print. The minimalist design maintained the enchanting theme inspired by "Alice in Wonderland," but with a focus on practicality and readability, aligning with the client's need for efficient and budget-friendly production.
